General Heating and Air Conditioning has significant experience with the design, development and installation of geothermal mechanical systems. A member of the Wisconsin Geothermal Association since 2001, General's largest scale, most impressive and most visible geothermal project is located in Verona, WI at Epic Systems Corporation. This multi-building campus embarked on a geothermal project with a scale not seen before in this area. Epic Systems' geothermal vertical bore field is to date the largest installation in the Midwest.
General, partnering with experienced and knowledgeable subcontractors, performed an installation that far exceeded anyone's expectations. The emergence, development and refinement of new approaches to energy usage and conservation are a continuous and ongoing process. At General, we are on the leading edge of new innovations taking place in core HVAC applications.
Some noteworthy facts regarding Epic Systems Campus 1 Geothermal System:
- Each well is 300 feet deep
- Wells are spaced 20 feet on center, forming a grid totaling 230,400 square feet
- There are 576 total wells, feeding into three large header pits
- Well pipes are constructed of 1-1/4" diameter SDR-9 Polyethylene pipe
The second Geothermal installation at Epic Systems Campus 2 includes many of the same construction features of Campus 1, however the scale is magnified. Campus 2 features:
- 1,000 Total wells feeding into four large header pits
- Up to 28" HDPE pipe connecting header pits to the Central Energy Plant
- More than 100 miles of additional 1-1/4" SDR-9 pipe, bringing the project total to over 150 miles; longer than the distance from Madison to Chicago
