General has considerable experience in completing buildings and projects using Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) building rating approach.
Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery
General Heating and Air Conditioning is currently working on the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery, which is pursuing LEED Silver Certification.
General Heating and Air Conditioning Corporate Office
Originally targeting LEED Silver for our design-built Corporate Headquarters, we were able to identify additional energy savings and have achieved LEED Gold certification.
Alliant Energy Cedar Ridge Wind Farm
General design/built this LEED Gold certified office and storage facility in the fall of 2008. Using a geothermal system to complement the Wind Farm's energy efficiency, this facility is truly a leader in energy and environmental design.
First Unitarian Society Meeting House
The meeting house expansion, as part of a Frank Lloyd Wright designed building, is LEED Gold certified. General worked with Affiliated Engineers, Inc. (AEI) and J.H. Findorff & Son, Inc., to complete the project in fall 2008.
Mentor Biologics Lyophilizer Facility
Mentor Corporation constructed a new Lyophilizer facility for their Biologics division in Madison. Vogel Bros. Building Co. and General teamed up to build this LEED certified lab facility. Arnold & O'Sheridan, Inc. (A&O) was selected as the commissioning agent on the project, completed in the fall of 2008.
Edgewood College Dominican Hall
Edgewood College recently completed the construction of the first LEED certified residence hall in Wisconsin. The building, engineered by A&O and built by Findorff, achieved LEED Silver Certification. General's service department worked closely with A&O to ensure that building construction met building design.
Wisconsin Energy Conservation Corporation
The Wisconsin Energy Conservation Corporation (WECC) headquarters building is LEED Gold certified. Working with Sustainable Engineering Group, General commissioned the WECC project.
Affiliated Engineers Incorporated
Affiliated Engineers, Inc. (AEI) constructed their headquarters in Madison, WI, wrapping up in July of 2004. Their building was the first in Madison to be recognized as a LEED certified building. General's work as a design build contractor with AEI and Flad Development helped make this project a resounding success.
General performed work that was designed and intended to be LEED certified at Teel Plastics, Inc, Epic Systems Corporation Campus 2 and the State of Wisconsin Data Center. For reasons out of our control, the decision was made to not pursue certification. However, the experience gained in the documentation of our efforts continues to improve the character and quality of all projects.
The quality of our work and our construction standards would have made the projects eligible on the mechanical side. General has brought many unique approaches and options to these projects. In performing this work, we surpassed all standards that were established by the construction teams. In doing this work, General also identified ways in which our company's standard practices would earn the project additional LEED points. Our exacting standards on all of our work make us precisely what a construction manager wants when selecting a Mechanical Contractor for a LEED project.
