The company's state-of-the-art training facility is located on Vondron Road in Madison, WI. This facility was recently remodeled in July 2007 as a dedicated educational center. The largest of the classrooms is capable of comfortably holding 60 students with built-in projector, screens and surround sound audio systems. One of the smaller classrooms is dedicated to computer aided training via computer based or Internet training modules. Educational classes held at this facility, or remote locations, are dictated by the needs of the company. The following are a limited list of some of the training activities performed at the Vondron Road Training Center.
- OSHA Construction Classes - Three in-house OSHA 500 instructors allow for easy scheduling of 10 and 30-hour OSHA classes for General Heating and Air Conditioning employees. The company is committed to providing the training and education needed to ensure a safe and healthful work environment.
- First Aid/CPR/AED Training - Five in-house First Aid/CPR/AED instructors provide easy access to life saving training for all employees. The Vondron Road Training Facility allows available space to handle all size groups. However, with in-house trainers, the safety department can provide the flexibility to maintain a trained workforce in remote areas as well.
- NCCCO Crane Certification - 14 states in the nation presently require a national certification for crane operators, with more likely to follow suit. The NCCCO (National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators) is at the forefront of this regulatory certification and is recognized by the majority of states requiring crane certification. This course is a three-day class, followed by written tests and finally a practical test. Two in-house instructors provide the classroom portion of the certification process. A proctor is used to administer the written text while the final practical exam is performed by one of the in-house instructors who are certified practical examiners.
- Driver Training - The liability and injury exposure created by the operation of a large fleet of vehicles is an ever-growing risk. All workers are "screened" through the review of their personal driving record, assigned company "points" according to the violations and identified whether they are eligible to drive a company vehicle. Annual driver training is provided to drivers of company fleet vehicles. Varying approaches taken have been classroom, combined classroom and behind the wheel, as well as computer based training.
- Annual Training - Other training activities provided by the safety department include, but are limited to, excavation, confined space entry, forklift, aerial lift, lockout/tagout, etc.
