New Capabilities

New Pipe Fabrication Shop:

General Heating (in concert with our parent company, the Hooper Corporation) has built a new 10,000-square-foot pipe fabrication facility to support our piping installation in the field. This capability allows us to streamline our production and meet tight construction schedules.

Our new Fab Shop facility has the following capabilities:

Orbital Welding station (1) capable of producing FDA quality welds
Monorails (5) with one ton electric hoists, each serving two welding stations
Semiautomatic Gas Metal Arc Welding stations (4) equipped with positioners capable of turning up to 40" diameter pipe.
Manual Weld stations (4) equipped to perform Plasma cutting and TIG, MIG and shielded metal arc welding.
Pneumatic tools are used to promote safety, reliability and better performance.
This equipment and the qualifications of our expert welders mean we can fabricate on all aluminum and both carbon and stainless steel.
Welding Processes performed are:
- SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc)
- GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc)
- GMAW (Gas Metal Arc, Spray or Pulsed Transfer Mode)
- GMAW-S (Short Circuit Transfer Mode)
- FCAW (Flux Core Gas Metal Arc)
Code Welding capabilities are:
- Manufacture of ASME Code Pressure Vessels
- Manufacture of ASME Code Stamped Pipe Spools

Our new Fab Shop capabilities are best illustrated by referring to our recent involvement in the LS Power project in Whitewater, Wisconsin. Our shop fabricated pipe spools comprised of carbon steel, chrome moly, stainless steel and alloy 20 materials, with wall thicknesses ranging up to one-and-three-quarter inches. Welding processes used included SMAW, FCAW, and GMAW, with some piping systems requiring 100% x-ray quality.
